The Blog

Seth and Shawna are one of those couples that perfectly balances each other out. Seth is the loud, funny face making, laughing, starving musician that you can tell probably has a bit of trouble putting on his socks in the morning; while Shawna is a little more down to earth. They go perfectly together, which I think this wedding video illustrates rather well. Last December, my good friend Daniel Karr asked me if I would help him film their wedding at Crystal Springs in Magnolia Texas. I hadn’t heard of Crystal Springs but when I arrived I could see it was a perfect place for an outdoor wedding.

In a stand of trees surrounded by pastures, the wedding guests consisted of friends, relatives, and cows across the fence. One nice touch was the neighbor rancher was burning lumber next to the wedding venue making the air slightly hazy. This led to some phenomenal images captured with my new favorite camera, the Sony FS-100. This camera has all the strengths of DSLRs and none of the weaknesses. I will hopefully be adding one to my collection very soon. The rest of the venue was Pine and Cedar and smelled wonderful. I primarily shot with the Glidecam HD4000 and Kessler Cineslider.

Seth and Shawna’s wedding was truly beautiful and I hope to film at Crystal Springs again in the future.

It is a big help to me when you use any of the above product links to Adorama, Amazon, and B&H and when you get anything. It costs you nothing, and helps me keep my site running. I have bought from all of these websites and I highly recommend them for their service, quality, and shipping speed.  I recommend them all personally.

Cameron and Megan made filming their wedding almost too easy.  Between Cam’s awesome antics every time the camera was on him, and Megan looking beautiful, this wedding film basically edited itself.  Cameron was my Impact co-chair way back in 2009 when I was just getting my first DSLR.  He possesses the rare talent of being able to make speeches about any topic and make you fired up about it.  I met his wife Megan outside of Sam’s Club one day and felt pretty sure they were a perfect match.  When he proposed, I hoped that he would call me about filming his wedding.  Sure enough, he did, and I’m happy to say that Megan and Cameron are one of the most animated and happy couples I have ever met.  I loved filming this video and showing their happiness; Cameron’s countdown made it really fun too.

Several weeks ago I was asked by my friends at Cinema Candy if I would help them film a wedding with a Same Day Edit on May 12, 2012.  After enthusiastically agreeing, I rode with the crew and around half a ton of equipment to the small town of Livingston, Texas.  You can tell Livingston is in east Texas because of the friendly people and how half the town showed up for the wedding.  Igor from Cinema Candy and I filmed the groom playing golf at the local golf course, then went on to film the bride getting ready.  After filming the bride I hung with the groomsmen and filmed them while they played dominoes and waited on the hour to arrive. The wedding itself took place at the bride’s ranch house in her backyard.  Her family had a massive tent constructed and the decor was phenomenal.  Speaking of phenomenal, the food was the best I’ve ever had at a wedding.  Even though it was 19 hours of filming, the day flew by.  My day began with filming the groom playing golf which meant holding on for my life to a speeding golfcart while filming.  After that I covered the bride and bridesmaids getting ready.  Once that was finished, all that was left was the groom getting ready and photos being taken by everyone.  The wedding was beautiful with me roaming around the ceremony getting Glidecam and slider shots of the proceedings.  While I filmed, Chad edited the wedding video and had it ready to show after the toasts at the reception.  I wrapped up the night filming dancing and the live band playing, before the bride and groom were sent off in a Rolls Royce. Most of my day was spent filming with a Glidecam, so all the smooth flying shots are mine in the video.  Chad of Cinema Candy edited the video in record time and we showed it on TVs to everyone at the reception. Having known Treanne and David for around two years I can say with a great deal of authority that they are one of the quirkiest (yet funny!) couples I have ever met!  Everything about their wedding day was awesomely entertaining, from the jokes and banter between Dave and his dad to Treanne’s bridesmaids and their singing.  This is one of my favorite highlights to ever edit, mainly due in part to the fact that I had the song stuck in my head for months before finding the perfect chance to use it.

Southfork Ranch was the perfect location for a Summer wedding as well.  The trees kept things from getting too hot and the sunset was pure magic.  If you haven’t heard of Southfork Ranch, lookup the TV show Dallas on TNT.  Filming for the entire show took place at Southfork Ranch and the main ranch house had little touches that resembled a stage for a video.

Besides the awesome bride and groom, maybe that is why I enjoyed filming there so much – it was made to be filmed!  The reception took place in one of the large auditoriums at the ranch and it could have held a group twice as large.  I also must say that this was the largest tunnel of sparklers that I have ever seen at a wedding.  They were extra long to make sure they stayed lit.
This was my first wedding using Gorilla Grain film grain scans.

Melissa and Mason’s reception getaway car was definitely in competition with Rebekah and Ryan’s for the coolest that I’ve ever seen at a wedding.  While Ryan rented a Dodge Viper, Melissa’s dad let them drive off in his 1962 Shelby Cobra.  This was my first time filming at The Heights Villa in Houston, Texas but after walking around I saw that it was a cozy wedding venue with many little nooks good for filming.  The Heights also has one of the nicest groom ready rooms I’ve ever seen; it even had a pool table! It’s always great getting to film fellow Aggies.
