Several weeks ago I was asked by my friends at Cinema Candy if I would help them film a wedding with a Same Day Edit on May 12, 2012.  After enthusiastically agreeing, I rode with the crew and around half a ton of equipment to the small town of Livingston, Texas.  You can tell Livingston is in east Texas because of the friendly people and how half the town showed up for the wedding.  Igor from Cinema Candy and I filmed the groom playing golf at the local golf course, then went on to film the bride getting ready.  After filming the bride I hung with the groomsmen and filmed them while they played dominoes and waited on the hour to arrive. The wedding itself took place at the bride’s ranch house in her backyard.  Her family had a massive tent constructed and the decor was phenomenal.  Speaking of phenomenal, the food was the best I’ve ever had at a wedding.  Even though it was 19 hours of filming, the day flew by.  My day began with filming the groom playing golf which meant holding on for my life to a speeding golfcart while filming.  After that I covered the bride and bridesmaids getting ready.  Once that was finished, all that was left was the groom getting ready and photos being taken by everyone.  The wedding was beautiful with me roaming around the ceremony getting Glidecam and slider shots of the proceedings.  While I filmed, Chad edited the wedding video and had it ready to show after the toasts at the reception.  I wrapped up the night filming dancing and the live band playing, before the bride and groom were sent off in a Rolls Royce. Most of my day was spent filming with a Glidecam, so all the smooth flying shots are mine in the video.  Chad of Cinema Candy edited the video in record time and we showed it on TVs to everyone at the reception. Every wedding day has a story to tell.  Lauren and Kevin’s day was no exception.  Their joy, as evidenced by this video, was palpable.  Not only were they excited though, but their friends were as well.  That is one of the things that made filming their day so much fun.  Everyone was so excited to see this moment that really was, as the minister put it, a reflection of the intimacy, love, and relationship that Christ wants from us.

Before filming a wedding, I like to watch wedding highlight videos to get myself in the proper mindset.  Each wedding has its own style, a theme, a flair even.  Jenni and Dustin definitely had a style all their own.  When I first was approached by Jenni about filming her wedding and told where it was going to be held, I envisioned a small country wedding out in the trees.  Arriving on wedding day and seeing the beauty of the venue changed my mind considerably.   Having only known Jenni and Dustin a short time, I can still say with a perfect degree of certainty, that their wedding was exactly their style.  A mixture of indie and mainstream, trendy and down to earth all at the same time.

My friend Toan, who I helped film Janie and Blayne’s wedding with, owed me a favor and agreed to help me film this wedding.  Thanks to his help, the video turned out great.

The ceremony and reception both took place at Angel Mountain in the lost pines of Bastrop, Texas on November 6, 2010.

Wedding photography was expertly handled by Lisa at Illuminate Photography.

Music: The song “Real Life” was provided with permission from the band Adelynn.  They have a great sound and are all about glorifying God.  Big thanks to them for letting me use their song, now go listen to their music!

My friend Michael Elliott likes J.J. Abrams, lens flares, and his wife Sarah.  Aptly so, when he asked me to film his wedding, I did him the honor of including J.J. Abrams influenced lens flares for effect.

The location for this wedding was perfect.  Having never been to (or heard of) Brookshire, Texas, I was amazed at the pretty countryside.  The Brookwood Community Chapel offered a great atmosphere that really felt like its own little world.

Photography at this wedding was top-notch as well.  Michael Norwood is one of the best photographers I have ever met, and his photos turned out beautifully.  He kept the photos fun while still capturing all of the important little moments throughout the day.

Thanks to David Dunn for letting me use his song in this video.  Check out David Dunn’s Facebook Page for his music!

June 2010 brought more weddings, and with barely two weeks of notice, my friend Toan had contacted me asking for help filming a wedding in Bryan, Texas at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church.

One form of wedding video that is gaining popularity is the Same Day Edit, where the wedding preparations and ceremony are filmed, and a short highlight film is immediately edited and shown at the wedding reception to the guests. This is what we accomplished and what you have just viewed (or are about to view), here.

If you haven’t seen my first wedding film, I encourage you to watch Caitlyn & Wyatt’s wedding highlight film as well.
